The Bulwark Anthology – Interviews with the authors Day 3 – Del Henderson

On day 3 of interviews with the authors of the Bulwark Anthology we have

Del Henderson

Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

My name is Del Henderson, and I am from the state of Illinois in the USA. I am your typical person who loves to eat, sleep and watch television. However, when I am not doing those things or at work, I write! I enjoy creating entire worlds in my head and writing them down so all the world can join me on my imaginary adventures. After all, most things in life are better when doing them with other people, well unless you’re waiting in line for the bathroom that is.

When did you start writing and why?

The strange thing was that I didn’t always like to write; in fact, I downright hated it. I remember writing school reports with the utmost dread. In 2010 however, I thought up an interesting movie idea and went to write it down. I only intended to write down a short paragraph, but before I knew it I was three chapters into my first book! How I started to write is still kind of a mystery; the best I could describe it was that it was just meant to be.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

The Unicorn Hunter has to be my favorite book so far. The book was intended to be more of a children’s book, but it did not turn out that way and morphed into something else entirely. Sometimes being a writer means knowing when to let go of your idea of how a story should go and let it write itself.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

I have always been interested in history and wars from the past so when Bulwark mentioned that there was a Civil War battle that took place near the town I knew that I had to write about it! So, naturally, The Battle of Bulwark was the perfect title.

What’s your process when you sit down and decide to start writing a book and do you have a system?

I generally write a short outline of how the story is to go but also keep in mind to be flexible. Most of the time when I write the story’s outcome is not what I originally planned. I try to create characters that will write the story by their natural interactions with each other based on their personalities.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I am a huge fan of Shakespeare.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

I am currently working on a thriller-horror novel which I hope will be released later this year.

If you could have any superpowers what would they be?

The ability to fly, but only North.

If you could travel to any location in the world where would you go?

I want to climb Mt. Fuji in Japan. I have heard of the beauty it holds, and I want to see it with my own two eyes.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

I would love to turn my hobby of writing into a full-time gig, but if I have to settle for winning the lottery, I would be okay with that too.
